Hello everyone, for this project, I'm going to make a War Horn. They were generally used by Viking and other Germanic people, but I thought it would be cool to make one inspired by Himalayan Art & Culture.
Goals for this project
- Delve deeper into Substance Painter and improve my workflow in it.
- Improve my general knowledge of texturing.
- Create a great prop.
Design
- The War Horn consists of 3 main parts, the mouthpiece, the bell and the main part of the horn. The mouthpiece is where the musician blows air into the horn to create sound. The bell of the horn is the flared end of the horn that amplifies and projects the sound.
- For the bell of the horn I will use a design of a Makara. A Makara appears in Nepalese, Kashmiri, Indonesian, and Tibetan folklore and they are a hybrid creature with a crocodile or fish body and an elephant or deer head.
- I will potentially create a tassel that will hang from the horn.
- I will also possibly create a stand for the presentation. Looking at some references I came across stands with bird feet. I would use peacock feet as from my research I know that they have significance in Himalayan art and culture.
